Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

This laboratory technique is used when there are severe semen problems (for example low sperm count or poor sperm motility). Although a sperm is inserted into the egg this does not guarantee that fertilisation of the egg will occur. The treatment process is the same as for routine IVF, but once the eggs are collected and taken to the laboratory, a single sperm is injected directly into each individual mature egg.
